Safeguarding

How safeguarding works in the Broker Panel

An overview of the safeguarding tools brokers use, and how they fit together.

Safeguarding means protecting members from harm, especially members who may be at risk. The Broker Panel gives you several tools for this. Each one has its own article.

  • Members' safeguarding choices. When they join, members are asked whether they consider themselves a vulnerable adult. Their choices can limit who contacts them or send their exchanges to a broker.
  • Coordinator help requests. When a member cannot message someone who is protected, they can ask a coordinator to help. Brokers and admins get a notification.
  • Message review. Some messages are copied to brokers to read, depending on your community's settings. You review them in Messages.
  • User monitoring. You can place a member under monitoring, so their messages are copied to brokers. You can also turn off their messaging.
  • Vetting confirmations. You record whether your community has completed its safety checks on a member. Members who consider themselves vulnerable adults can be contacted only by coordinators and vetted members.
  • Safeguarding Options. You can change the list of choices members see when they join.

Your community's process comes first

These tools support your community's safeguarding process. They do not replace it. Your community should have a named safeguarding lead. Know who that person is and how to reach them.

If someone is in immediate danger, contact the emergency services first. Then tell your safeguarding lead.
This is done on the main website. The accessible site does not have this page.
