Setting up message translation

Change how message translation in messages works, and add your own translations for key words.

If your community lets members translate messages, members see a Translate to button on messages, followed by their language. The Translation Settings page changes how those translations are made.

  1. Open Platform Operations in the admin menu.
  2. Press Translation Settings.

Each change saves as soon as you make it. A short message confirms it, such as "Context-aware translation updated".

Settings that change translations

  • Context-aware translation: when on, the translation service also receives some earlier messages from the same conversation. This can make translations more accurate.
  • Context message count: how many earlier messages to send, from 1 to 20. It is only used when context-aware translation is on.
  • Enable glossary: when on, your own word list is used. See below.
Context-aware translation sends more of a private conversation to the translation service. Think about your members' privacy before you turn it on.

Adding your own translations

A glossary is a list of words you always want translated in a certain way. For example, the name of your community, or the word you use for time credits.

  1. Turn on Enable glossary. The Glossary Management section appears.
  2. In Source term, enter the word as members write it.
  3. In Target term, enter the word you want in the translation.
  4. Choose the Language of the target term.
  5. Press Add.

To remove an entry, press the delete button at the end of its row.

Turning translation on or off

To switch message translation on or off for everyone, use Message Translation on the Module Configuration page.

Translation uses the platform's AI service. If members are told translation is unavailable, contact the platform team.

This is done on the main website. The accessible site does not have this page.
