Staying safe when you meet someone
Simple habits that help exchanges go well, especially the first time you meet someone.
Most exchanges go smoothly. These habits help keep it that way.
Before you meet
- Read the member's profile, and their reviews if they have any.
- Keep your conversation in Messages, so there is a record of what you agreed.
- Agree clearly what will happen, when, where and for how long.
- For a first meeting, choose a public place if you can, or make sure someone else is nearby.
- Tell a friend or relative where you are going and when you expect to be back.
During the exchange
- Trust your instincts. If something feels wrong, you can stop and leave.
- You do not have to let anyone into your home if you are not comfortable.
- Do not hand over money, bank cards, passwords or identity documents.
Afterwards
- If something went wrong or worried you, tell a coordinator. Contact your community.
- If you feel unsafe, block the member.
If anyone is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first.
If an activity involves a vulnerable adult, ask your coordinator which rules apply.
