Your role as a broker

What can a broker do, and what is only for admins?

A plain list of the tasks brokers can do, and the ones that need a community admin.

Brokers look after members and daily activity. Admins look after the community's setup.

You can

  • approve, suspend and reactivate ordinary members
  • edit a member's name, phone, location, tagline and bio
  • resend a verification email, send a password reset, or reset two-factor sign-in
  • adjust an ordinary member's time balance, with a reason
  • keep private notes about members
  • approve or reject exchanges that need broker approval
  • tag listings with a risk level
  • review message copies, place members under monitoring and turn off their messaging
  • confirm, renew or revoke vetting decisions
  • record insurance certificates
  • remove posts, comments and reviews that break the rules, and close reports
  • change the safeguarding options members can choose
  • change the Broker Panel settings that are not marked Admin only

Only an admin can

  • change community settings, sections and branding
  • give someone a role, such as broker or admin
  • create, import, ban or delete accounts
  • reactivate a member who was banned (you can lift an ordinary suspension)
  • choose the community's safeguarding jurisdiction
  • pay hours out of the Community Fund
  • set rewards for attending events

Checks that protect you

To keep things fair, the site stops you acting where you have a personal interest. You cannot:

  • approve or reject an exchange you are part of
  • moderate content you wrote or are part of
  • close a report you made
  • close a report about you, or about something that is yours, such as your post, listing or comment, or a review you wrote or received
  • adjust your own balance, or another broker's or an admin's

You also cannot change another broker's or an admin's account. If you try, you will see an error. Ask another broker or an admin to help instead.

This is done on the main website. The accessible site does not have this page.
