Workshops: leftover hours and the community fund
A workshop or class sends its leftover hours to your community fund by itself. No shared account is needed.
When a Workshop or class group exchange is completed, any hours left over go to your community's time fund automatically. This is the same community fund that members see in their wallet and that admins look after. Nothing else is needed.
What happens
The person running the session earns the hours they put in. Everyone who attends pays the hours they attended. The hours paid are usually more than the hours earned. The difference is the leftover, and it goes to the community fund.
Mary runs a 2-hour class for 4 people. Mary earns 2 hours. Each person pays 2 hours. The other 6 hours go to the community time fund.
The hours reach the fund at the same moment everyone's balance changes. If anything fails, nothing moves at all, including the fund.
Seeing the leftover hours
Admins can see them in the community fund history, listed as income from a group exchange with the name of that exchange. Each member can also see their own part in their wallet history.
If you used a Community Pot account before
Some communities used to keep an ordinary member account, often called a Community Pot, to hold the leftover hours of a workshop. You no longer need one. Choose Workshop or class and the fund does the job. Old pot accounts stay as they are, and new workshops do not use them.
Things to remember
- The people running the session cannot earn more than the attendees pay. If they would, the page shows a message. If several people give their time to one person, choose A team helping someone instead.
- Only Workshop or class sends hours to the fund. In the other kinds, the hours earned and paid match exactly.
- Members can also give hours to the community fund from their wallet. Only an admin can pay hours out of it.
- If your community gives hours for attending events, an admin sets the reward on each event. Brokers cannot set it.
